What is AI?

AI means artificial intelligence. It is a kind of computer tool that looks for patterns to help with a task.

Think of a helpful pattern finder

A computer does not think or feel exactly like a person. But an AI can look at lots of examples and spot patterns. Those patterns can help it make a suggestion or answer a question.

Example: If you show an AI many photos labeled “cat” and “dog,” it may learn clues that help it guess which animal is in a new photo.

AI is already around you

It can help choose a song you may like, suggest the next word while you type, or find the fastest route on a map. People build AI tools to help with specific jobs.

Remember: a suggestion is not always correct. Your own thinking is always important.
