How does AI learn?

AI learns from examples, a little like practicing with flash cards—but with lots and lots of cards.

Examples become patterns

People give an AI examples: pictures, words, sounds, or numbers. The AI searches for patterns in those examples. When it sees something new, it uses the patterns to make its best guess.

Try this: Imagine sorting buttons by color. After sorting lots of buttons, you get better at noticing what makes each color special. An AI does something similar with information.

Why can AI make mistakes?

AI can be wrong when its examples are missing something, are unfair, or do not match the new question. It can also make up an answer that sounds confident. That is why people should check important information.
